Born in a culturally empowered family which traces its roots to the doyen of Assamese literature Rasaraj Lakshminath Bezbaruah, a Sangeet Visharad from Bhatkhande Sangeet Vidyapith – Lucknow at the age of 13, Abhishruti Bezbaruah has blossomed under the guidance of Padma Bhushan Guru Pt. Rajan – Sajan Misra and their sons Pt. Ritesh – Rajnish Misra of the Banaras Gharana.

Since the age of six she has been drawn towards the classical genre and has been ably guided by maestros like Guru Shri Damodar Bora of Assam, whom she reveres as her ‘Adi Guru’, Guru Smt. Mandira Lahiri of Kolkata and Guru Shri Jiten Basumatary of Assam.

As a classical singer, she has had the opportunity to work with some of the finest artists and filmmakers of the country. Her moment of glory came when renowned filmmaker Padma Shri Muzaffar Ali asked her to lend her voice to his serial ‘Zabaan-e-Ishq’. She went on to act as well as sing in Ali’s opera titled ‘Gomti’ which was staged during the Lucknow Mahotsav. Her next enriching experience was to work as a playback singer in Kathak maestro Padma Vibhushan Pt. Birju Maharajji’s dance dramas titled ‘Habba Khatoon’ and ‘Holi-Dhoom Machori’.

She was nineteen years old when she mesmerized great musical minds at the All India Radio with her mellifluous voice. Adjudged 1st in India in the All India Radio Competition 2006 in the category of Hindustani Classical Vocal Music, Abhishruti is the first Assamese woman from her home state Assam to have won this much coveted recognition. Recently she has been conferred with the Young Talent Award of North East from the Ministry Of Culture, Government of India. She has been a recipient of the Centre of Cultural Research and Training Scholarship since 1998 and Young Artistes Scholarship from the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. She has also been bestowed with the ‘Swar Ankur 1998’ and ‘Swar Ratna 2002’ and ‘Star Singer of Ajmer 2006’ in Ajmer, Rajasthan where she spent good eight years as a student of Mayo College Girls’ School.

Although Abhishruti’s forte lies in Hindustani Classical Music, she is well-versed in varied music forms and thus could adapt to all its genres. This reflects in her consistent endeavors to extract, experiment, and create something new and unique from the existing. With her captivating vocal excellence, she has enthralled listeners not only in India but left audiences spellbound in countries like USA and UK.

Not many would know that Abhishruti is also a trained Bharatnatyam dancer having a diploma to her credit and an immensely talented sync sound recordist – sound designer who has worked under many prestigious film banners. She had the privilege to work for Oscar winner Padma Shri Dr. Resul Pookutty and National Award winner Nakul Kamte. She was nominated for the 62nd MPSE Golden Reel Award 2015 for Best Sound Effects Editor for the Film ‘ROAR – Tigers of the Sunderbans’ which was held in Los Angeles, U.S.A.
